FAQs
🌿 Bio Beds Plus – Frequently Asked Questions
Q What exactly is an organic mattress?
An organic mattress is made from materials that are grown and processed without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or harmful chemicals. At Bio Beds Plus, our mattresses feature GOTS‑certified organic cotton, GOLS‑certified organic latex, and natural wool. These materials not only benefit the planet but also create a healthier sleep environment by reducing your exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other toxins commonly found in conventional mattresses.

Q Are Bio Beds Plus mattresses good for people with chemical sensitivities?
Yes, absolutely. Our mattresses are specifically engineered for individuals with chemical sensitivities, allergies, and asthma. We avoid polyurethane foams, chemical flame retardants, and synthetic adhesives – all of which are common culprits in off‑gassing. By choosing our non‑toxic materials, you create a safe haven for restorative sleep, free from the irritants that trigger reactions.
Q What is the difference between natural latex and synthetic latex?
Natural latex is derived from the sap of rubber trees – it’s renewable, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, dust‑mite resistant, and highly breathable. Synthetic latex, on the other hand, is made from petroleum‑based ingredients and lacks the same durability, elasticity, and comfort. At Bio Beds Plus, we use only organic Dunlop latex, which provides resilient support and maintains its shape for decades.

Q Why is wool used in organic mattresses?
Wool is nature’s ultimate temperature regulator – it wicks moisture away from your body, keeping you cool during hot summer nights and warm in the winter. Even more importantly, wool is naturally flame‑resistant, which allows us to meet safety standards without adding toxic chemical flame retardants. Wool also acts as a built‑in dust‑mite barrier, contributing to a cleaner, healthier sleep environment.
Q What firmness levels do you offer?
We understand that comfort is deeply personal. That’s why we offer Soft, Medium, and Firm options to suit every sleeper. Side sleepers often prefer softer profiles to relieve pressure on the hips and shoulders, while back and stomach sleepers typically benefit from firmer support for proper spinal alignment. Our team can help you choose the right level – just get in touch.
Q Can I customise my mattress?
Yes. We believe your bed should fit your body and your lifestyle. You can customise your mattress by choosing the firmness level, the thickness of the latex layers (available in 2”, 3”, and 6” profiles), and the materials used in the core. This ensures you get the exact support and comfort you need – without paying for features you don’t want.
Q Do you sell mattress foundations or bed frames?
Yes. To properly support your organic mattress and extend its lifespan, we offer a Heavy‑Duty 15‑Slat Natural Wood Foundation. This foundation is engineered specifically for Canadian sleepers – it provides excellent ventilation, reduces moisture build‑up, and ensures your latex mattress stays perfectly supported for years.
Q Where are Bio Beds Plus mattresses manufactured?
We are proud to manufacture our mattresses right here in Canada. This not only gives us tight control over quality and craftsmanship but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with overseas shipping. Buying a Canadian‑made mattress means you’re supporting local jobs and getting a product that’s built to withstand our unique climate.

This warranty is provided to the original purchaser from the date of purchase – it’s our promise that your investment in healthy sleep is protected for the long haul.

Q How long does shipping take?
As a Canadian manufacturer, we are able to process and ship orders efficiently. Shipping times vary depending on your location and the level of customisation, but we prioritise getting your healthy sleep solution to you as quickly as possible. You’ll receive tracking information as soon as your order leaves our workshop.
Q What is your return policy?
Customer satisfaction is our priority. If you are not completely satisfied with your mattress, please contact us to discuss our return and exchange process. We aim to ensure you find the perfect fit for your comfort needs – because a mattress that doesn’t work for you isn’t a mattress you should keep.
Q How do I clean my organic mattress?
We highly recommend using a GOTS‑certified organic cotton encasement to protect your mattress from spills, dust, and allergens. For spot cleaning, use a mild natural soap and lukewarm water – gently dab the area and allow it to air dry completely. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or steam cleaners, as these can damage the natural fibres and affect the mattress’s breathability.
Q Can a natural mattress help with back pain?
Yes. Our mattresses combine ergonomic latex support, temperature‑regulating wool, and non‑toxic organic cotton to minimise spinal stress and inflammation. By promoting proper alignment and reducing pressure points, many customers experience significant relief from chronic back and joint pain. It’s not just comfort – it’s therapeutic support for your body.

Q Are organic mattresses more expensive?
While the upfront cost of an organic mattress is often higher than a conventional one, it’s important to see it as a long‑term investment in your health. A high‑quality organic mattress can last 20 years or more, whereas conventional mattresses often need replacing every 5 to 8 years. Over time, the superior durability, zero off‑gassing, and health benefits make it a more cost‑effective and ultimately cheaper choice.
Q Do you offer DIY mattress options?
For the hands‑on customer, we offer organic Dunlop latex layers that you can purchase individually to create your own custom mattress configuration. This option allows you to experiment with different firmness levels, layer thicknesses, and constructions until you find your absolute perfect sleep combination – a favourite among those who love to tinker.
Q Why should I choose a non‑toxic mattress?
Conventional mattresses are often filled with polyurethane foam and treated with chemical flame retardants that off‑gas VOCs – volatile organic compounds that have been linked to respiratory issues, hormone disruption, and other health problems. Choosing a non‑toxic mattress reduces your lifetime exposure to these harmful substances, contributing to better overall health, deeper sleep, and peace of mind.
Q Do I need to flip my latex mattress?
Unlike traditional spring mattresses, our high‑density latex mattresses do not require
